about us

Church Hill Cottage is our home and we make it available to guests, from time to time, as a holiday rental cottage.

The cottage, which is listed, and dates from the late 17th century, is an idyllic and well appointed retreat situated in a beautiful rural village. It is perfect for friends or family to share.

The cottage is surrounded by it's gardens and located in a quiet lane adjacent to other character cottages and near to the village church.

We are in a perfect rural position deep in Thomas Hardy country but within easy reach of the Jurassic coast, country walks, local towns and quaint villages. Forde Abbey, Mapperton Gardens, numerous National Trust attractions and the historic market town of Bridport are all within easy reach.

The coast has a variety of unspoilt beaches as well as small Dorset resort towns including Lyme Regis, West Bay and Weymouth. There is local horse riding, fishing (fresh water e.g. trout, carp etc. or sea water e.g. mackerel), cycling, walking and a host of other activities. As the cottage is located near to Dorset's borders with Somerset and Devon, those counties are also easily explored.

We love the selection of great foods locally - either buy from local sources, farm shops and markets and cook in our well equipped kitchen or visit one of the many local outstanding pubs and restaurants and have someone else cook for you.

Whilst there are no shops in the village there is a good selection of shops, including supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware shops and cafes in Crewkerne (where there is a good Waitrose) and Beaminster. There is also a great farm shop in nearby North Perrott. Also nearby is Bridport with a great selection of independent shops and twice weekly market.

There are frequent direct rail links from London Waterloo to Crewkerne which is only a 5 minutes drive to the cottage. We do recommend a car for your stay although you may find that you can get by with a good pair of walking boots and the occasional taxi. A number of walks can be started directly from the cottage, including a very pleasant 4 mile round walk to a local pub.

Parking is available near the cottage, by the church, in a dedicated space, and / or in a layby approx 100m away where a further couple of cars can be accommodated.

Church Hill Cottage sleeps six people, and has an open fire in the lounge and woodburner in the dining room, making it a very cosy cottage! In summer, the french windows can be flung open to access the mature secluded gardens to the front and rear of the cottage - perfect for summer BBQs. The two patio areas makes a perfect place for an early evening glass of wine with one covered in a beautiful Wisteria filling the area with an intoxicating smell during the spring months.

Our cottage was featured in The Weekend Cookbook by Food Writer Catherine Hill - take a look at the video at youtu.be/qiM7XT8x5b0.
